1988 318 TBI, conversion to carbs?
 
I have a 1971 Dart Custom in which i intend to use the engine from a 1988 B350 Van. (318 TBI)
I just have some questions that someone here might answer.

1. The 1971 318 block, and the 1988 318 block, are they the same regarding of motor mounts?

2. Does the intake manifold from the 1971 318 fit the 1988 318 block?

3. The 1971 904 transmission, does it fit the 1988 318?

When going to www.edelbrock.com and reading about the #2176 Performer intake manifold, they state it fits 1966 to 1972, and #3776 fits 1972-1987 "street legal"...
Does that mean that the 1971 block and the 1988 block differs so it is not possible to use an intake made for a 1971 on a 1988?
Or can it be that it fits, but in that case it´s no longer "street legal"?
Found, when googling, people who claim that a #2176 fits a 1987/1988 block, so i´m a little confused and would like to know if someone might have been in this situation before and tried it...?

I intend to use carbs instead of TBI.
TBI is great, when it works...:)

1: Block ears are the same, actual motor mounts to frame are different.Bolt up no problem.

2: Intake exactly the same except for those two holes in the pad beside the carb flange. EGR valve (if uesd) bolts on, opens and closes to allow exhaust gas to be drawn into the manifold as required to reduce emissions. Can be covered with a plate if not used, no big deal.

3: 904 bolt up is the same, 88 converter is probably a lock-up, no problem.

Bonus is you likely have the desireable 302 "swirl port" closed chamber heads on the 88. The kickdown linkage will have to be adapted but still no problem.

B350 Van most likely has a bigger 727 trans So you can use it or use your original 904 trans. Converters are different

Problem with the 727 from the van is that the tailshaft housing is probably long which would create issues in a vehicle like a dart. You can always swap the tailshaft and housing though.

I have not checked which model of tranny i got from the B350, but i´ll check it tomorrow.

I have the same problem,
I have a Dodge pick up D-100 with diesel Perkins engine, this engine was removed and i would to put a 1988 318TBI engine from a Dodge van,

I would to put a Edelbrock intake mainfold with 4 barrel carburetor 600CFM in this engine, and removal the TBI specific parts.

some people tell me i need to remove the distribuitor (controled by computer) and put a new distribuitor with electronic or standard ignition

I would to remove all the Anti-Pollution systems and the computer module
(In Spain authorities no pay many attention to american cars, i think in Sweden do the same)

Im not sure if the linkage of auto transmission 727 can fit the carburetor ¿?
