318 marine vs auto water pump

I have a 34 Plymouth Street Rod with a 74 Dodge 318 V8 in it. I don't have enough room between the current water pump and radiator to add a mechanical fan. Will a marine water pump work in it's place since it does not appear to have the long neck that the automotive one has? Really what I am asking is the marine water pump ok to run on an automotive engine.

Welcome Woody....... I say no..... Most boat water pumps are using the outside body of water to cycle threw the engine.. I am not 100% sure... But I dont think those would move enough water in a closed system....

Have you looked into this style pump?

Thanks for the info and opinion. It is not intuitively obvious to me how the plumbing would work with an electric pump. I will have to think this through.
