440 build

I'm slowly hoarding up all the parts needed for my 440 build. This is my first build. I'm gathering parts with the plan of building 500hp. So far I've got a good 440 block, stock stroke steel crank, edelbock e street heads, 1.6 Hughes rockers, Hughes flat tappet cam 232/236@50 duration 571 lift intake 582 exhaust, dished pistons, 10.5-1 compression, Manley H beam rods, edelbrock torquer 2 intake and a 770 street avenger carb. Should I be close to my goal of 500hp? Thanks Chris

The 750 carburetor is way too small. Minimum 950 cfm.

It is a hydraulic cam. Lobe seperation is 110, installed centerline is 106.

Small cam and the E-street heads, I see 425 to 450 hp.. Motors going to be done by 5000 rpm, carb should be ok at this level. For 500 hp the RPM heads would have been a better choice and a mechanical cam with 250 duration @ .050 lift on a 110 centerline for the street.
At this level I'd go with a 850 cfm carb.

I used this cam in a 440 that came off the dyno a month ago.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/dc...iew/make/dodge
It made 520 hp and 543 trq.

I figured this would be the cam to use in my application. It is going into a SWB 84 D150 with 3.73 gears. I'm okay with the estimate given. I'm gonna have problems with hooking it until I do a little suspension work anyways.

Your going to have a hot rod!

You don't say what converter your using, but I like the gears.

I think I've got both used and NOS parts you need to do the swap, headers, motor mounts and oil pan.

Bolt down 2 big Block Mopar heads in the far rear of the bed..... That will fix the traction problem.....

I have yet to pick out a convertor. That was going to be my next question. I need one in the 2800-3000 range. My plans are to run dual batteries and have them mounted in the bed.

I have already purchased the required parts needed to make the swap from BPE.

Should make 500hp with most of those parts.... IF not the EX285HL and a head port with a little more compression and the 780-850CFM will do the trick..... I Also like the BPE stuff. Good Choice...

Just my 2 cents

I like your package, big time tire ROSTER for sure, but if you want 500 hp. on a dyno or track numbers you're going to have to make changes. Port the heads yes, Bigger cam yes, Bigger carb yes.

You can have a hell of a lot of fun with what you have, do not worry about hp. numbers!

One more thing, I Highly recommend JW Performance Transmissions converters http://racewithjw.com/
I've put them in cevys yuck, Fords and Mopars, I've got one in my 64 Fairlaine, 455 hp. 289 , that hits hike a hammer! Look them over and give them a call.

I'm not that concerned with the numbers. I'm just building a toy to have fun with, not to concerned with being competitive. I'll call the folks at JW and see what they recommend for a convertor. Thanks

Yep, you will get there.
I've made 500 on the Dyno with just the CompCams XE274H.
Just make sure you have 10:1 with the Aluminum Heads, and if you can get the stock Eddy Head V/grind redone even better.(just aweful as delivered from eddy)
As mentioned, up the Carb a bit(850 puddle dumper)

^^^^^ A real GOOD valve grind will help immensely for your build.
