440 piston marks
 

Gang I started taking my 440 apart- check out my album. I have a pic of the piston that have 2 marks on each piston that all face the front direction, is there a reason for this? Also not all pistons have the marks as equal as others, why?

Yep they tell you to point the pistons to the front of the block. Some have one mark and some have a F on the side of the piston.

The piston pins are offset. Years ago, some of the guys I knew in San Diego used to recommend turning them around (stock, flat-top only, of course) for more HP. Supposedly the pin offset pulled the torque/ HP curve down. I figured the factory knew best, and put them back as the shop manual specified.
