'89 318 efi intake to '79 carbed 318

Hello,
my brother and I are thinking of taking on a project and would like to know if the throttle body injection components from the 1989 318 in his truck will work on a 1979 318 engine.

The reasoning behind this is due to our grandfathers passing and my brother would like to use one of two 318 v8s that grandpa had in the garage.

Some background on the truck: its a 1989 Dodge D150 Shortbed with the 318 V8 and Automatic trans, it is fuel injected and barely runs down the road unless you drop it in 1 to take off and then shift up to drive as the rpms come up. Supposedly there is a shift kit in the trans, if this is the case then they did a poor job putting it back together.

All info is welcome, thanks for your time.

I don't understand your post at all. You said something about 79, then you were talking about 89

So is the engine which does not run correctly in an 89 body? And it is presently a 79 engine? carburetor? fuel injection?

But the more important thing is this:

What makes you think that whatever is wrong with the pickup presently REQUIRES an engine change? Or that switching to a different engine? Different fuel injection? is going to solve the problem?

If the engine is down on power, this could be from any number of reasons BESIDES and INCLUDING the fuel system, carburetor, or injection.

What diagnostics have you done? Compression? Leakdown? Does the engine use oil? Does it miss on one or more cylinders?

Problem solved.
