Dizzy Question
 

ok i picked up a ready to run distributor for my 318 from a swap meet for 70 bucks. ive changed distributors before but never on a dodge. i know what goes into it but my question is the gear for the distributor is it attached to my old dizzy and i have to pop it off the old one or what? i know theres a slot on the bottom of the shaft so idk if the dizzy gear is fixed on the camshaft or if like i said i have to take it off the old one nd switch.

Pay attention to which way the rotor is pointing. and just pull up on the distributor. The drive gear will stay in the engine.. There should be a metal ring gasket on the block and an O ring on the distributor. REPLACE the O ring or it will leak..

which one the metal oring on the block or the oring on the distributor?

Most engines I've run into do not use the metal gasket, only the O-ring. I would think the new dist came with an O ring.

He bought it at the swap meet !! Replace the O ring for insurance

its a brand new unit box was still sealed from the factory

and also would i still be able to run a feedback carb with a ready to run distributor or no?

a lean burn carb?

yup leanburn/electronicspark control.

Why would you? (stay with same carb) you are half way to a "Lean Burn Delete" but it will run with the LB carb, just not as well as it could.

And by ready to run are you meaning a D.U.I./ or 'clone' distributor, that requires no Mopar ECU?

not quite sure what you mean but no it doesnt need a mopar ecu it has the icm built into the distributor i guess you could say its a clone its not an msd ready to run its a proform distributor i do believe

dump the lean burn carb it will be your problem now:doh:

thats for a mopar but...... did you check for clearance between the fire wall i know hei style disbs. wont fit under my hood M body
but if it fits all u got to do is hook the ignition hot up to the hot input on the hei its all self contained should fire up :)

its exactly like that except for its not an hei style dizzy. i still have to hook up an aftermarket extrenal coil.

im under the impression that the hei dizzy your showing is the dizzy your talking about
if that is the dizzy your using that is a coil on the top and is self contained thus the term "HEI" high energy ignition im very familiar with them from my younger days of chevy hood

ive seen ads on like ebay but as far as a manufacturer i havent come to a 100% solid answer. i know the guy i bought it off of told me who made it i think it was proform but i cant remember

ok that will give us some useful info
the wire looks like it is a formed plug in other words it needs to connect to the other parts from the manufacturer coil spark box circuit guard ect. and in my experience its best to stay with the manufacturers stuff.
still did not find anything for that part number

the style of coil he showed me that goes with it had one stud nfor a negitive terminal and a male spade connector for a positive terminal. he told me if i had an aftermarket coil already it would be fine to use as long as it was a 45,000v or higher coil. i picked up a 60kv coil from summit to go with the dizzy. im just wondering if itll still work with the leanburn carb or not. i want to hook it up like yesterday but if it dont work with the leanburn carb im pretty much beating a dead horse ya know.

that little box on the side it the icm something like an hei icm

To answer your question directly, yes it will work, but the carb wont work totally correct. It should start and run just not as well as it could.

The little box on the side is probably where the ignition module goes...

ok i gotcha just because its an electronic feedback setup?
