727 rebuild vs 904

Hi we have a 727 reverse Manuel valve body hooked to a moser dana 60 with 4.30 gears and a some what high stall.

Question is this trans handled 10.50's all day not getting hot no burned fluid but the stall is high. Should we just try to do a converter swap on this one and some day rear gears? Or will a 904 handle this kind of big block power on the street and strip?

Goal here is to have the car run well on the street and the strip. more street then strip.
P.s. I don't mind the manuel shifting. thanks

Before I spit out my 2 cents..... How much converter? How much street driving?

But as for the trans... There both good if built correctly. 904 Can have a lower 1st gear for a little less money... I am more of a 727 fan...

Unless that last tenth of a second is important Keep the 727 & change the converter.. Unless you want to spend BIG $$$$ on a special built 904

The stuff I've read suggests that a 904 can withstand nearly as much as a 727 with the right parts, and is MUCH MUCH safer so far as the rear sprag issue, because the internals are lighter.

You I would guess have already spent $$$$ on your 727.... a properly built 904 with a Hemi It could last one run or ten ??? To run 10.50's you have to have some serious HP..Or maybe upgrade to a lenco or turbo 400 ????

This is all good info thanks. I don't know the stall but it doesn't feel like it wants to kick in right away and when it does it wants to go. If you can see the video I tried to link you can tell me what you think. If I pull it specrite is in redding and if they make the converters in that pro mod they run then I think it will hold up. ha ha

So if we keep the trans what gears should we go to? more street then strip the car was at max rpm 6800 on a 10.32 pass with the 4.30 gears.

Spec rite has good stuff......
Get a 2800 Stall...
Rear gear 4.11 or 3.90..

I really think you should put a thinner and taller tire on it. And leave the rest alone.... If you dont like it after that... then make the above changes...
Keep us posted...

Interior is not going to be cheap anywhere you go... But a few places I delt with are Classic industries, Year One, Dante's Parts, Muscle Car Metal, E-bay, Hemming's, Spring and Fall Fling.

For the motor plate... If you need a Blank Plate.... Jegs, Summit, sell them. For a Pre-Drilled, You could check with Bob Mazzolini, Mancini Racing, These guys might still have a E-Body Big Block Plate Lying around.

Just to name a few for you...

Thanks for the help . I'm going to check out the web sites. I think I should make a build thread for this car. Or I guess it's taking a bad a$$ race car that has been proven and putting it back on the street. This car has been a racer I think starting 1985.

My buddy Brian Cobbett in the far lane with the Mustang Run a 727 down in the sub mid 8's... Smallest motor in its class... Hauling the mail, with a Mopar trans...

Side note:... The car in my avatar... I did the same thing.... Street... Raced.... and Back to street, before I sold it..... And Let me for warn you... Dont ever sell that car, I could now spit nails, that I finished that car and sold it to by a house... Not one of my brighter moves... Love them E Bodys..

Your own Build thread would be awesome....
