727 Trans
Seems I have heard not so complementary comments about the 727 for street strip use.I have seen guys go to the PG and other GM branded trans. But honestly I don't know why that is.In the mid to late 70's I did bracket race a 73 Dodge Dart sport.Sure it had a 727 trans.Thing is I didn't really get after it like I am thinking I want to with a 440 in a Dart.
Please school me. Thanks in advance, Gary |
How much power, how fast and what is your budget? :)

In general, nothing wrong with a 727, but for heavy duty work, it will need some basic mods. Too many being used in S/S applications to bother debating. A lot might depend on the Q's that Iowan asked. Archer |
The SS 727s use 904 parts same with the sockers, but if you have 900 hp plus and need a three speed auto go 400 same with a PG, you can get a case to bolt up to a BB and not need a shield.$$$$$cash

At that level you will need an aftermarket block!
|
The reason I asked the questions is there are 9 and 8 second cars on the street now.
In the 70s 12s was fast! |
I agree. power levels is what will make them or break them.. But when you say Street / Strip.. I think they hold up good depending on what the combo is..
But if you start braking parts... Thats a new town with a different story. |
He is entry level but needs to decide how fast is goles are, I would hate to spent 4 or 5 K on a trans/converter only to have to start over at a new power level.
|
why not spend the money up front if you plan on going 9s and get a 400 and be done!
My "10.5" motor will go 9s and I wish I had a th400 behind it. I have to by a converter for the 727 and I think its a WAST of money. |
Put a liberty in it and dont look back....:yikes:
Good Enough to run 6's Eh !!! http://www.allsmileys.com/files/smil...other/4798.gif |
My goal will be a low 10 second car
|
Build it with the Cope Stuff and you will be just fine.... Just my 2 cents... :)

When I sold my Dart,Art Carr was the hot ticket.
