904 auto. Transmission not shifting into gear

Hey my 73 Chargers 904 Automatic Transmission hasbeen leaking fluid for years now because I havent driven it and the other day Iwent to back in out of the garage but it wouldnt go into any gear. I checkedthe fluid and it was almost completey out so I put almost 5 quarts in and ranit and tried it again and the shifter shifts into gears, but the car wont move. The parking brake is off, so I dont know why it wont go in any gear so I canmove it? Any thoughts?
PSits been sitting in my garage for 8 years just now getting to work on it.

if it has had no oil in it for a while. run it in neutral to load the hyd circuits with oil. in park it does not run oil throu the cooler. the to check the oil level run the gear shift throu all the gears then put it in neutral then check the oil level.

If the trans acts like it is working, make sure the brakes are not locked up!!!

Moe's absolutely right but let me expand on that thought. If it's been leaking, it can't get any lower than the top of the pan. I would recommend you drop the pan and watch the rooster cam (if you can see it) while someone shifts the gears (not running of course). I suspect the shift valve is cruded up and the filter as well. This will entail removing the shifter body with out dropping the tranny and cleaning it or have someone who knows how to do this if your not skilled enough. There's check balls inside that really need to go back to where they're removed.
