Need some info on Manual Transmissions
Ok im not that familiar with mopar im looking for some info on manual transmissions for cars. This is for the older cars & ones that will work for a 318.
What type of std trans are there for mopar? Whats most type of cars do they come in? Are they cable clutches? im looking to change a auto car into a std car and trying to see whats the best way of going about it. |
Instead of such a general question, what you should consider is posting the EXACT model year and model of your car, ----
there were a couple of different tail shaft lengths, and two, maybe three?? different diameters of bell -housing holes, so the retainer on the transmission must match the bell. I believe some of the early 3 speed bell housings won't accept the later A-833 4 speeds. Also, some later 4 speeds are an overdrive. What Mopar did here was to re-gear the original 3rd gear into an OD ratio, and turned the 3-4 shift lever upside down, so that when you shifted 1-2-3-4 in original 4 speed parlance, you were in REALITY shifting 1-2-4-3, I.E. the old straight-through 4th gear now becomes 3'rd in the OD trans. To my knowledge, no rear wheel drive Mopar ever used a cable clutch. |
Here is a start: http://www.allpar.com/mopar/transmis...ed-manual.html
Have a search for Brewers Transmission or Passon. Great sites with some tech articles, and just browsing the parts can give you ideas on the costs. |
ok i got alot uf weird looks when i asked some car guys around me i want to put a 4speed in my 85 diplomat. its got the 318 but im trying to find a little older year 318 to build up wich will have the std trans attached to it. I ment do any trans have the clutch cable to engage and disengage it?

You may want to consider a hydraulic clutch mechanism.

You will need the pedal set up from an F-body (Aspen/Volare) as well as the floor hump from the same. The pedals should be a bolt in deal, if you can find a complete stick car with all the parts it will make the conversion much easier.
