66 monaco lower door hinge(door won't stay open)

The passenger door on my 66 monaco convertible will not stay open. In the attached pics of the lower hinge you will notice the spring is not attached, it keeps coming unclipped from the lever. the lever moves freely and because the lack of tension the spring just won't stay on.
I reattached the spring and it made no difference. I can see that the roller is still in place. Is there anything missing? broken? or adjustments? I looked in the shop manual and don't see anything on this. the only thing i found in the manual is door diagram and is not detailed enough to show the components of the hinge.

thanks

EDIT: the drivers side door won't stay open either, i noticed the roller in the lower hinge is missing on that side. has anyone ever replaced this roller?

With the door open there should be space between the spring coils to keep it open

With the spring hooked up, opening the door puts no tension on the spring at all. there is a roller inside the hinge and im thinking it may not be turning and it may just been worn. that lever that the spring is attached to may have worn a groove in the roller. that is my thoughts.

i got a look at the drivers door and the roller is missing on that side and it does not stay open either.

has anyone ever replaced rollers in these hinges before?
