That's a 340? And you can't get into the 13's? What rear gear do you run?
By the way, where are you in WA, I'm in Coeur d Alene |

I would think you could do better than that. One of the combos I most feared with my old RR was a 340 Dart or Barracuda
Does it seem to hook up OK, that is, how's wheelspin? What do you shift at, and do you think your tach is accurate? Have you checked the advance curve, and have you verified the timing when advanced? Are you running a posi or open rear end? What ar you running for a carb? I dearly hope you are running something with a vacuum secondary? Are you running with open headers or through the mufflers? If you are running through the mufflers, what are you running there? |

I'm not tryin' to be mean, just trying to find out what you are running. I do understand that fuel isn't what it once was
(By the way, where do you run, and what is the track elevation? I'm not familiar with "TNT") It sounds like you have some good equipment. You might do better if you got rid of the double pumper, but at least it's not oversized It sounds like you have decent exhaust. You might want to see if you can find someone to help with your distributor, and see what the high RPM timing is doing. Are you still running a stock (Chrysler) single point dist? If so, you can probably gain some ground there, either getting a better distributor, or trying to find a shop to rework the old one. Here's the thing--when the single point distributors start to wear, the dwell (point gap) changes with RPM, and THAT causes the timing to change!! You might be overadvancing at top end, not getting enough, or the points might be starting to bounce Do you have a basic timing light? You can easily degree the front balancer to check the distributor advance, that is VERY easy to do on a Sat afternoon. I guess what I'm saying is that the combo you have should be faster than it is, as it is, without a bigger cam. What kind of shape is the engine in? Has it had a recent rebuild, and what kind of miles is on it? Same with heads, valve job? And listen, I'm really not trying to give you a hard time. It's great that a kid your age has an interest in these cars, now. I've had my chance. I was in my mid '20's when I bought my first '69 383 RR, and a couple of years later, my '70 sixpack car. |
