73 Duster 340 help
2 Attachment(s)
I have an original 73 Duster 340 California car that I'm in the process of learning more about. It is a factory sunroof car which appears to be pretty rare. The car is numbers matching, no rust, no body damage, and original paint in faded condition. Here are the details I've been able to figure out for the car:
Make: V = Plymouth Valiant/Duster Price Class: S = Special Body Type: 29 = 2 Door Sports Hardtop Engine: H = 340 4BBL 8 CYL Model Year: 3 = 1973 Assembly Plant: B = Dodge Main. Hamtramck, MI, USA Sequence Number: 324340 = 224,340th Vehicle Brakes: B41 = Front Heavy Duty Disc Brakes with 10” rear drum Trim: C73 = Fold Down Rear Seat Back Transmission/Axle: D34 = Torqueflight – Standard Duty – 3 spd Automatic Engine: E55 = 340ci 4bbl 275 HP V8 Glass: G33 = Outside LH Remote Mirror Heater/Air: H51 = Single Air conditioning with Heater Paint: JY9 = Dark Gold Metallic Lighting: L25 = Trunk compartment Light, L31 = Hood or Fender Mounted Turn Signal Molding: M21 = Roof Drip Rail Moldings, M25 = Wide Sill moldings, M52 = Manual Sunroof Engine Assembly: N41 = Dual Exhaust, N42 = Chrome Exhaust Tips, N76 = Coolant Recovery System, N95 = NOx Exhaust Emission Control, Cal. Emission Control Package Radio: R11 = Music Master AM Radio Stripes: V6W = Longitudinal stripes, white, V8W = Transverse stripes, white Interior: C4L3 = Vinyl Split Bench w/Center Armrest - Parchment One of 15,731 1973 340 Dusters. One of less than 40 with sun roof. I know it is hard to say without seeing the car in person, but do you guys have a ballpark guess what the car might be worth? See any errors in my decoding? Thanks in advance for any help!! |
You've got a gem there. Take a day with some rubbing compond and a buffer and that paint will look good.
As far as a price goes, you are looking at around $18K ONLY IF the car is spotless of rust, bubbling, rips, stains, etc.. If you can get the thing to shine again, you're looking at around almost $30K. |
if the car is perfect, i would say at most 30k
but that has to be perfect |

but that has to be perfect My guess would be more like $14,000 to $16,000. Looks like a very nice car. Good detailing and you should have a very nice driver. |

WOW You guys are definitely optimistic. Ebay has prices anywhere from 1500 to 24,000. The high dollar cars are restored numbers matching. The early 340's bring more money because of the more desirable front end (body style) and more importantly the later 340's were much less powered than the early cars. With low compression and the government cracking down along with the insurance companies, these were much less cars than the years prior. Also some colors bring more money. The high impact colors being the most desirable, and the "earth tones" like brown and tan bringing less money.

id say if it was a 71 or 70 probably would bring maybe 18k but i dont see it going for 30,000

I agree.. I'd say 14k is still too high. The market just isn't what it used to be... I'd say 10k tops.

can't help on face value, but is it a soft top or does it power into the roof' a friend of mine has one that powers into the roof
|
Thanks guys for the input. I'll probably just get it cleaned up a bit and give a shot at selling it this spring. I have too many other projects going and the Duster is just taking up too much space. Sounds like high single digits might be a reasonable place to start.

I know this thread is ages old, but I found the thread in doing a search for my old '73 Duster 340 sunroof car and I'm 99.9% positive that this is it.
Every option is the same and it even has the side-body belt moulding that the original owner added. The car was an original Southern Cali car, too. I'd love to get it back again... |
