Another Newb with his first Mopar.

Ok, ended up meeting a really cool, old Mopar guy in SC. He has a ton of stuff, is extremely helpful, and doesn't mind moving some of the clutter from his shop and massive storage building that's packed like sardines. All A body Mopar goodies. Making new friends has its perks...
318 and 904.

if you are interested in keeping the slat six in it here is an upgrade that can be done that will really turn heads - with a reworked 904 and an 8 3/4 rear end sure grip - hang on - just a thought - jaxx

That's pretty cool! I'm going to keep the 6 when I put the teen in. Probably going to build it up while I'm destroying the V8. It's always good to have a back up. Especially when I can get just as much power out of it.

440 and 83/4 if you're going cheap, that's what worked in 1983, 9" might be cheaper now. Big cubes move your car and turn the tires, no substitute for cubic inches!

that 225 six is in a dragster that the guy that runs it loves to eat v 8s - mostly stock except slight milling of the head - home made intake with the 6 cycle carbs and a cliford header- the 225 is a torque monster for its weight and they are bulletproof - I think the old 64 dodge pick up im getting has a 225 in it - if so its going in my RPU after the treatment it will get. Cliford 4 bbl - header - milled head - mild cam -- don't want to much power the rod will only weigh about 1300 lbs - anyway good luck with your project - o buy the way the Deora that is my avatar pic was powered by a 225 slant six --jaxx

My buddy came over last night and helped me tear the engine down. It only took about and hour, and she was ready for the machine shop.
Now is when it gets real. I'm gonna need some help here, fella's. I keep reading about and seeing examples of easily attained 400hp in a 318. Here is one example that I like a lot.
http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/...-engine-build/, and there are others as I'm sure you guys know.
I also want you to keep in mind, I've never actually done this before, myself. I have turned wrenches for who knows how many hours on everyone else's toys, but I've never had to do this part before.
With that said, I have been doing my homework. First and foremost, I have to close THAT gap, and get myself to 0 deck. If you look at the article in the link, the showed me how to do that. Keith Black makes the piston heads that get it pretty darn close. Then I leave it to the shop to take it down what little is left. Right?
Next is finding the piston rods from a 340/360. I keep seeing that as a consistent upgrade on almost all I've read. I think I trust that one at the moment.
Crank? I've read several times that my stock crank is fine, as long as it's still true. My shop will be able to tell me.
Cam? Looks like I don't have many options. I'm digging for knowledge on that one...
Now comes the confusing part for me. Heads, intake, air, fuel, and spark. I'm not looking to do anything special, just a tried and true setup that works and will last. The only thing I know for certain is that I will be using roller rockers, rougher springs, and I really, REALLY, want a dual carb on top. It makes my pants tighten a little everytime I've ever seen it.
Help me out guys. Lay it on me. Any options you can think of. I'm going to continue to do my homework and see what I can figure out, but you guys know your stuff. Let's get some Mo' Power out of this Mopar.

Mopar Lover
Stick with that compression height of 1.81" and YES deck to zero.
Crank will be the tough item, 3.31" steel ones are not plentiful.
Heads...read, research and search adds or get Edelbrocks. I put beehive springs on mine to get under the rockers, LA retainers are huge.
Hold off on cam selection until you have all major engine components, confirm transmission, tire size and final drive ratio.
Oh, start a new thread with 318 build title and you'll get more views and responses.
