No brake pressure.. Tried everything
 

Hey guys, been a while since I've been on here but am still laboring away at the 74 swinger.
Questions for you, rebuilt the front suspension, put it all back together and bought new pads and bled/replaced brake fluid. Can't get any pressure now. The front has Discs and the read still has factory drums. I tried first bleeding fronts, then bled backs after failure to fix problem.

It's odd to me because I had quality pressure before and now even pumping it full still renders a bubble fountain in my master cylinder. The other thing is after the suspension rebuild I could not get the caliper back on with the hose in the same direction as it was (the brake hose has some crazy steel tubing that attaches with a bolt that is shelled for the fluid to pass through). This bumped with the tie-rod after I put it back on, hence why i flipped it.

This is a lot to take in but please help, the dream cruise is quickly approaching!!!!

SOME front disc brakes will bled by gravity, no pumping. its not fast but on SOME it works. and DO use anti-sieze compound on ALL threads on the bottom of the truck.

Sure you got the calipers on the rite side and facing rite direction?

Good point Bob, The bleeders should always be on the top. There also should be copper washers on the hose where it mounts to the caliper. Pictures would help alot... Bill:)

your master cylider may have failed. did u switch it disks and.this is the first time?

Copper washers are all there still, the discs were placed on by the previous owner and worked quite well. I've done thirty brake jobs and never had this issue, on the simplest car I've owned of all too lol.
The bleeder is on the top facing the rear of the car. The hose is coming down off of the inside lower side of the caliper.. Master cylinder seems fine because it is holding pressure, I'm just getting the spongiest pedal.

di u have rubber hoses on the caliper? the rubber actually swells over time and can almost close this may be a issue. theres not much to the brake system on these. try bleeding the system again start at the back right corner and work arond

also check the wheel cylinders in the drums they may have failed

Open all the bleeders and let it gravity bleed with master cylinder open just keep adding fluid. Until all the bleeders run clear and there are no more air bubbles wiggle hoses to get trapped air out as they bleed...You might have to power bleed them or use a vacuum pump to get all the air...Bill

Wow Bob did you see the price of the power bleeder?? I would get someone with strong legs and just keep on bleeding until I got pressure...LOL ..Bill

you dont need that crap just pump the brakes and stick a board in there to keep pressure

Bled them, all four, one thing i noticed is the caliper is pressurizing/ never pops the pads to the rotor.. all i did was change the pads on the sucker... the hose has one of these steel leads on it https://www.google.com/search?q=brak...32%3B515%3B323
Everytime I bleed it there are NO air bubbles, already gone through a tall boy of brake fluid... Which leads me to another question, could it be the type of fluid used?

If the caliper is pressurized and the pad doesn't hit the rotor then it appears that the caliper is siezed or that maybe the hose collapsed internally. Every time there is pressure applied it closes off and when the bleeder is opened it relieses and allows the fluid to flow through. In which case the hoses need to be replaced...Another thing that I have found over the years is that alot of times the pedel will feel spongey or soft untill you barnish the brakes.. Have you tried driving the car to see if the brakes work good. Just be careful And take it slow. All I can get for my duster are organic pads locally and they really feel soft...Bill

ok, i have what is probably a dumb question... was it originally front disc or did you upgrade them? and if so did you put in a proportioning valve?

Yes all bleeders are face up, and to respond after quite sometime which i apologize for especially with all the help you guys give, I ordered and replaced my new master cylinder. After taking apart the old one I found the "plungers" were flipped and fixing it costs basically the same as a new one.

But now I'm having the issue where no brake pressure adds up, but i can hear a vibrating/hitting sound near the back of the cylinder. When putting the new one I was unsure whether the ?hydraulic? hose that runs from the brake pedal through the firewall was actually secured and lodged within the master cylinder. Anyone know of a way to ensure it is located where it should be?

Discs in the front were not done by me, but they worked well as I had bought the car.

Bench bled the MC as well before putting it on the car.
