Starting problems
 

Parked her last night, she was running like a champ. Go to start her this morning and she cranks just fine, spark is good, she sounds like she wants to kick over and start (almost did a couple times), but she just wont.

I took off the air cleaner to look at the carb, and this is what I found...now I'm no carb expert (all I've ever dealt with is fuel injection), but isn't the closed plate in the pictures supposed to be open? I also took some pictures of the linkage, so you experts can tell me is something is missing or not

BTW, its a 74 Scamp, 318

Take off the fuel line and hold it in a can and get someone to crank er over a few times, getting fuel or not. Filter plugged, float stuck closed in carb, fuel pump ? Plugged jets etc etc.

I took the fuel line off and it was putting out good fuel when it was cranked over.

Also note: when it sounds like she wants to start, its only with the pedal to the floor. Lift off, or crank it with no gas, and it doesn't sound like it wants to start.

maybe your choke is out of adjustment, so it wont open enough to start the car

Hold the gas pedal down to the floor, DO NOT PUMP IT just put it there and hold it there. meanwhile, put a screwdriver in the carb to hold the choke plate open (yes it is supposed to be closed) and crank, and crank, and crank. all the time holding the pedal to the floor. Dont lift and start over just hold it there and crank.

There, it started right?

How easy should it be to get the choke open? I tried prying at it a bit and couldn't get the thing to budge. Also tried moving the arm that connects to the carb, on the outside (in the 3rd picture I posted), and that doesn't budge it either.

Also, in the 2nd picture, that piece that is behind the accelerator cable, that has the rod going up the the arm that moves the choke...behind that, there is a plate that is just kinda...loose. Any thoughts? Choke stuck shut which broke it when the pedal was pushed to the floor at sometime?

Well, it seems like the choke plate is stuck good...what are my options here? Any ideas to get the plate unstuck? Should I buy a rebuild kit (though I have no idea how to rebuild a carb)? Should I just buy a new Edelbrock carb?

I've never had to deal with this situation so I'm not sure what my options are and all.

hey those old choke pull offs tend to stick .I'd disconnect the choke linkage for now and see if it will start. [BTW the choke pull-off is located in the choke housing itself on that style of AFB] Also, the kickdown linkage does not look right, usually the pin that slides is towards the back of the slot when the engines not running.
