Tubbing a 68 Barracuda..
I am going to build up a 68 Barracuda and was wondering how much it would cost to have it tubbed for some wide wheels. The car is going to be a street/strip setup. I am just trying to get a feel on what I am getting into..

Check out this page for info http://www.roadsters.com/chassis/
I've know two guys that had used Alston Chassiworks and were real happy with the work, Another friend had a Pro-Street pinto with parts from Morrison which was also good. |

Are you able to do the chassis work yourself .... are you just looking for a parts list and price?

I have friends that can help, but I would prefer an expert. Why?

Because doing it yourself ... you can save a ton-o'-dough ! ... but if you want to eventually run in the 8's ... you better have a Pro do it. Back maybe 8 years ago ...I had considered doing a back-half of my 62 Plymouth. This was just a fast streeter. Using leaf-springs ..... it was almost 4k$ including everything. That was having a chassis guy do-it.
To spend almost 4k$ to actually run SLOWER ... no way !! |

Basically I just want to do it right. I want to benefit from traction.

I should explain that last statement.
I was considering putting a big MT tire on my car ... mostly for looks. But my SS leaf-spring suspension worked fine.... for a high 11 second car. I was doing this on a 6-8" Hoosier DOT tire. But after some considerations ... I decided against that since IF the car hooks well with a small tire. Pulling a bigger tire down the track(that is not necessary for starting line traction) will hurt both overall ET and speed. |

No doubt .. for sure ....I would think in the low 9 and 8 second range you would want a 4 link setup with BIG tubs for a good 14" tire.

The wife does not want me to go to far with my sons first car. She has limited me to a high 10 second to low 11 second car. So possibly a mini tub.. LOL!!

NO tubs needed for a car like that. A good 9" "stocker" tire is all you need !

A 9" stocker tire is going to be a better tire than any DOT radial....and probably way cheaper.
