Is it worth it?
I'm currently resoring a '69 barracuda. Its a 318 car with a 904 tranny. I wanted to get other peoples opinions on building up the 318. I can get a 360 really cheap, so what does everyone think? Should I build up the 318 or swap it with a built late model 360 (I would probably end up building a stroker)?

The first question is.....Is it a numbers matching car? If it is, I personally would restore it with the 318. If it is not, there is no replacement for displacement!

Yep, it depends on whether you want to keep it original. If you put a 360 in there, those engines are externally balanced, and I'll guarantee you that you can "feel" that. I don't remember if the weights are on the torque converter or the flex plate
If the 360 is out of a pickup or other rear sump pan, you'll have to find a pan. Your 318 pan won't fit, because the rear main seal on the 360 is larger. |
