8.25 axle shafts

Hi,
I have a 8.25 axle with sure grip. My right side axle shaft is pitted. I installed a repair bearing, but it didnt help. the pitting is on the whole surface. Needless to say, it is roaring real bad. My problem is I cannot find a new axle the right length. I have the axle out, and no matter how many times i measure it, it is 28 1/2 inches long overall. 28 inches long from the outer side of the flange, to the c-clip end. the shortest replacement axle i can find is 29 3/4 inches long. i have searched by casting number, and still couldnt find a replacement.
can the axle be remachined? ground down and a larger bearing installed? has anyone else ever had this problem?

Go to a 8-3/4 Rear

Switch to a 8-3/4 rear, if you can find one. - Depending on your area, that may be difficult.

I have one! Its a peg leg. What parts do i need to make it a sure grip? Do i have to change the whole chunk or can i pull out the carrier, and just replace that? will the old axle shafts still work?

You need the entire housing, axles, carrier with sure grip etc. -- Not sure about backing plates and brakes, but probably those too. -- It's an easy switch, but unless you can find one for a reasonable price, it will get expensive. -- This may not be for you to do. -- Unless you are setting up for major HP, you don't need it.

Check to see if they make a repair sleeve, Their is also a repair that moves the bearing to a different part of the Axel ??
