1976 D300 4x4 Questions

1 Attachment(s)
Greetings,

I just purchased a 1976 D300 mini-pumper with the full time four wheel drive. I see there is no 2wd position on the transfer case. The issue I seem to be having is the front wheels grabbing when turning a corner. I've shifted the transfer case to try and make sure it is in the High and NOT high lock. Is this normal for this set up (as I have not had one before)? I'm going to be driving this truck about 1250 miles in a few days to get it to its new home and I don't want to be messing anything up. This truck currently has only 15,000 (yes original actual mileage) on it.

Thanks for any information anyone can provide.

Mike

Wish I could help you. I was not aware they produced a transfer case without a 2WD position. Can you unlock the front hubs by turning a selector under the front hub caps? I am not sure I would want to drive it that far like it is. How about removing the front drive shaft?

There are no selectable hubs under the hub caps. This is a full time system.

I use to have a site for the Tech Man. But for some reason i cant find it now... I have a phone call into a buddy from the Army that might be able to help me...
These trucks are kind of neat... Hope you can post some more pictures when you have time. Might even have a I.D. plate inside behind the seat...
If I can ask.... Why in the world would you buy one of these things? only guys I know that buy them are EX-Fire Guys and folks that are like urban Fire fighter Fighters?

Some of these where military Spec. units... Some are from a fire retro fit,
Like Pierce fire apparatus or snorkel or someone like that on the box side?. But those a mix build, and a little harder to track down.
Great looking Rigg.... Looks in great shape... Love the old Gold leaf lettering !
Where is this units new home going to be? Is it going to an Active, In-Active, or just a show peace?

Can you tell I'm excited.... Sorry.... lol

It is currently in PA but will be going to Florida this week (Highlands County). This is actually the forth pumper I have at the moment. I also have a 77 Ford F350 E-One mini pumper, a 78 Hahn pumper and an 87 Hahn pumper. I have been in the antique fire apparatus hobby for 30+ years. Google SPAAMFAA. And yes, I am a former firefighter as well. This will be used for parades and shows as well as general playing with water now and then.
