318 to 383

I have a 73 road runner im swapping out the 318 to a 66 Chrysler 383 i think it came out of an imperial but im not sure.
i was wondering what im gona need to do the swap
i have a 904 torque flight but the transmission has been rebuilt with stronger parts to be able to handle the higher horse power and torque.

Your 904 wont work..cuz it has the small bell housing for the 318. You'll need to get a big block trans, just as well get you a 727. Prob need to get a stronger rear diff.. im guessing you have an 8 1/4, also consider a bigger radiator for cooling.

your going to need some motor mounts a trans adapter (big block to small block tranny) and a different tranny mount. i've never used a sb tranny behind a bb but i think they push the tranny back and i assume it will present problems with the trans mount. personally i would just use a 727 unless the 904 is what you really want for a less power robbing tranny for drag racing.
Iv'e used schumacher mounts and have been very pleased with them

Yeah, pretty much - for starters. Then you have to worry about the exhaust manifolds and pipes - assuming you're going to use headers.

What rear do you have in there now?

Also, with a new tranny/rear, you might want to plan on a new drive shaft, yolks/U-joints as well. The sizes, including length, might not match up.

no you would have to change the whole thing, also you would want to make sure it will fit you car by measuring backing plate to backing plate. (dont want a rearend sticking out 3 inches on each side,)

If your not sure go behind the car and look at the rear. If it looks like you can unbolt like 8 nuts to get in the rear you got a 8.25 if you have to drop the rear then you have a 8.75
