Hey Everyone.. Just picked up a 67 Belvedere II with the stock 318. I don't want to do anything crazy to it just yet. Looking to get a edelbrock carb and was leaning towards the 1406 at 600cfm. I just wanted to get everyone's opinions on what carb I should get for a mostly stock 318 and still get some performance. I have headers and full exhaust on the way as well. Sorry for the newbie questions...

I guess a 600 would be good, a little bit big for the stock cam and heads.
I think a 525 (?) cfm would be better. What are you going to use this car for? (BTW, the 3rd car that I owned was a 67 belvedere II with the 318)

Honestly I'd like to build the car for reliability and street performance. Just an all around fun car to drive. If I decided to go with a Edelbrock performer two plane intake manifold and edelbrock 600CFM carb along with full exhaust do you think I'm pushing the stock internals too much? I want just a mild build on the 318 just to cruise around in. This is my first Mopar and I love it.....

well, believe ito not, the 67 318 had a forged crankshaft. It also had over 200 hp stock. I guess the weak kink in the whole engine would be the stock pistons and rings. get an intake to match the heads then the 600 carb then a small camshaft of about .450 lift.

Sounds like a plan to me. What type of cam should I go for? I've heard good things about Comp Cams?

comp and edelbrock are the ones i'd recommend for that kind of build

Very cool! Mines a '66 with a stock '73 318 and I love it. The car drive's great, runs good and when I get it out on the road and run it I get 20 mpg, not bad for a 44 year old car.

For now this is the only picture I have...Anyone know what size Cragar S/S wheels wil fit under this thing? Thinking of upgrading the stock 14's to 15's?

Nice car! I love the color! I have a 67 Belvedere II that I cloned into a GTX. I can tell you this, the rear wheel wells do not allow for very big tire.\/wheel combinations. I have p225 75 15 tires on the back mounted on 15" mopar cop steel wheels and I have to disconnect a shock to get them on and off. p215 75 15 on the front with no issues.

Okay guys... Need some more help. Just finished putting on Edelbrock 2176 performer intake manifold and Edelbrock 1405 cfm carb. Got it running but it seems to be running rough at idle. When I give the motor some throttle it seems to run fine-only problem is at idle and takeoff from a dead stop. I checked firing order and plugs-everything is correct. Changed distributor cap and rotor along with wires and still having issues? My next step is going to be to get new points for the distributor and possibly a new coil? I haven't checked timing yet but I'm not sure if its a timing issue or not? Any help is much appreciated... Thanks again!

do you have a vacuum leak anywhere?

No vacuum leaks that I could find. Intake manifold is fine and so is carb. PCV valve is new and working. I was able to drive it around the block this morning and it just felt like it had no power.

Way cool belvedere! I would leave the stock tires/rims for the "sleeper" look. How about the choke? Is that working correctly? A choke not set up correctly can have a hugh effect on drivability.
BTW, I also had a 66 Belvedere back in '89-'90. It was the same color as yours. Kind of a bronze gold.

Manual choke is working just fine. What should be the correct timing for a 318? 10 degrees BTDC?
