'68 Charger Starting issue.
 

This summer when I got the charger out of storage it had developed a new issue. The car will crank all day long and not start till you let the key back to the run position, then the engine fires up. I have been living with it all summer because I only drive the car a couple times every other weekend or a evenings once in a while if it is nice out. I am wrapping up another project this week and would like to fix this issue. Anyone have any ideas? I plan on hitting the electrical diagrams one evening this weekend.

Any one else thinking ballast resistor

Start relay
 

Not the ballast resister. It is bypassed in start to apply full voltage to coli during start and when in run the voltage is reduced through the ballast.
I would guess the start relay is not giving the full voltage when the key is in the start position and the relay energised.
You can test the ballast by putting a jumper wire on it. Is this a 2 prong or 4 prong ballast?
I can post wiring diagrams for both if you need them.

It is a two prong ballast resistor. I will test some this weekend and let ya know the results.

Got it figured out. The wiring block at the firewall has some loose connections and corrosion. Fixed a couple wires and tweaked a couple plugs and she fires right up.

Hm. Bulkhead connector didn't even come to mind..

I was thinking the ignition switch because it sounded like it was "catching" when you let the key fall back and would fire up then.
