68 sport fury trouble

I recently replaced my 727 transmission and the rear end of the transmission cracked, I'm thinkin due to a vibration that's been goin on since I got the car. It vibrates when I get up to around 60 or 70mph. It feels like its in the rear end but I'm not positive on it. I took it to a guy that got the driveshaft balance checked and is replacing the yoke, it apparently was bent. This is the second yoke I've gone through. My 1st guess is that it's because I haven't changed out my wheel bearing like I was going to back in november last year. The rear u-joint had all its C clips in so after that i'd have to say its something internal in the rear end. If anybody has any ideas about what's going on feel free to reply to this post, I could definitly use the help. Thanks

Hey J,
I know this is a little off from what your problem is but the more you know about the diff the better I'm guessing. I've learn a lot from the helpful guys around here.

My brother in law and I are changing out the gears in my 8.25" rear end this coming week, I'll be taking a lot of pictures and notes. I'll let you know how things go in case you need a reference later. In the mean time here are some references I have bookmarked:

How A Differential Works
Ehow
Your Gear Ratio

could be axel bearings, but it could be someone over tightend the axels, some where adjustable if you get them too tight they will shake the hell out of your car and break transmissions and loosin bolts,

Just because the c-clips are in does NOT mean that ujoint isn't fried. However, they usually (USUALLY) tend to vibe closer to 40 or 50mph. I would definitely start there, since it's a cheap, and relatively easy, fix.

Yea my 1st guess is the wheel bearing cuz I'm pretty sure they were supposd. 2 b changd out awhile ago, I been getn mixed answers witht that though. I've been through a couple u-joints so I think there's something else going on. My driveshaft was apparently bent outa wack so I'm going to have to test it out to see if that was the problem

so it WAS the driveshaft that was making the vibrations. im probably going to change out the rear wheel bearings anyway since they should have been changed a long time go when i had bought them. now there's an issuewith the transmission going into gear from a cold start. it's like it takes a sec 4 either drive or reverse to pop into place. it feels like there's something not aligned right. i'll start by checkin the gear selector lever but i doubt thats it because i would have the same problem no matter if its warmed up or not. the guy who dropped my tranny on for me saidhe had to put a one-way valve on but that didn't fix the problem. plus every now and then it feels like it slips out of gear. anybody know what might be going on?...... i should have just swapped a 4 speed manual on and called it a day

I've been reading these other threads on here and see that my questions have probably been answered several times over.... sorry.from what I've read I'm thinkin that my torque converter may not be adjusted correctly. Before this tranny was put in the old tranny didn't even have a converter on it, it was just held fully open by some wire. I'm wondering if that's the case, if that will also solve the issue of it not going into gear right away as well. I'm gona play with it and see what happens. Thanks again for all ur help everyone. Next comes the brakes/dash assembly

It was the torque converter adjustment and one-way valve. it was too loose when they put it on and too tight when I adjusted. Jus gota see if it'll catch right away in the morning. I'm glad I learned the purpose of the torque converter as well, building pressure in order for the gears to shift up if i m understandin it correctly. I could have definitly put my tranny out of commision again. Now I'm wondering if it'd be better 2 swap 2 disc brakes or keep drums. I've heard mixed inputs cuz u've got more surface stopping ur car, it jus MIGHT or atleast hav more of an ability 2 warp because of the heat. I also probably should get rid of the leaf springs (although I like the feel of that cadillac type ride, very smooth). Again, inputs and ideas are welcome
