727 from c body to b body? help
 

Have a newly acquired 68 4 door satellite, wondering if 727 from 69 2 door polara would fit in it, swapping the 318 for 440.

Sorry 318 and 440 transmissions are different. Now! body style makes no difference, ex 4X4

no, I mean I have a 727 from a 383 c body (polara), I want to put my 440 to the 727 and drop it all into the satellite... I think you are saying I cant put the 727 to the 318, atleast thats what im hopiong, lol.

Polara -

The big block trannys should be interchangeable since the bell housing is the same size, but you might need to have a custom drive shaft made. The yoke has to reach into tranny tail within spec.

So far as I know, all BB / RB 727s are same tail length, exception would be some of the vans/ trucks.

It IS different length AND output spline from your 904 (if that's what you had) so you'd need new shaft and slip yoke

One caveat is the torque converter. Depending on what 440 you have now, it may be internally or externally balanced. You need either the proper torque converter, or to buy an aftermarket (such as B&M) "unbalanced" flex plate to make up

(This is common, example, 318/ 360 LA swaps---the 318 torque converter has no weights, the 360 converter does, so if you want to use a 318 converter behind a 360, you must use an aftermarket flex plate) The factory 360 converter is easily identified as it has one or two noticeable weights welded right on the front.

OK, you guys have been a big help so far...thanks. I am getting a custom tq converter built to my specs but figured a custom shaft was in order too. As for the 440, it currently has the cast crank but I am sending it off to get stroked so they should take care of the balancing issue. I just wanted to know if my grand rebuilding the 727 I had was wasted or not.

No waste so far as I can see. Be sure to check with your rebuilder to see if the engine is considered "internally balanced." I would bet not.

How much HP are you planning to build ?? With all the expense to build an engine I would use the stock crank as is or spend the extra for a steel stroker crank if that is what you want
I broke a cast crank in my 360 years ago
