Aluminum Water Pumps
Looks like my overheating problem maybe related to the pump. Anyone ever have any issues switching to an aluminum water pump? Any considerations when going to an aluminum pump?
Thanks |
i just put a bosch alum pump on my car. it overheats unless the thermostat is out. could never figure it out but maybe thats my problem.

An alum water pump will just displace some heat for you. If your looking for more flow, then you want a high flow water pump. If your having an issue with overheating, take a look at some of these simptoms then.
Stuck thermostat bad clutch fan clogged radiator air pocket weeping water pump no fan shroud on the radiator I'm sure that there are more but these are the main causes of overheating. Have you upgraded anything on the motor recently performance wise? |
aluminum pumps will get ride of heat faster

Also a out of tune engine will also run hot. I had a issue last spring where the car was over heating, to the point there was excessive pressure in the rad, changing the water pump had no effect, turned out the timing was off a bit, but it caused the temp to rise tot he point it was boiling the coolant! |
Could it be possible I have the wrong radiator in the car? Both hose outlets/inlets are on the drivers side....

I was told by an older mechanic,if my car is over heating ,is to remove the thermostat and use a flat peace of aluminum and drill a 5/8 hole in the centre of it ,and use it as the termostat and the engine will not go over 190.He is the mechanic for a friend of mine ,and they race in cascar. They say this works ??

Find a cure for the cause, not the symptoms. Why is the car overheating, what else is the car doing? Have you pulled the plugs to see what they look like? Are you burning oil, blowing smoke from the exhaust etc! what's the timing set at? When was the last time you had a rad and coolant flush? do you have the right thermostat and is it in the right way round?

have you tested the pressure in the radiator?

You could have an air pocket stuck somewhere since you flushed the system. Just a thought. |
