carburetor backfire
Hi every one my name is Carlos and am new to this forum
Ok I have a problem with my 1965 belvedere wagon
It backfiring pretty bad and is lock in power.
Here is some spec of my setup
The wagon has a 440 from a 1973 roadrunner and Holly carb 700
When a got this wagon, a year ago it had allot of power. By the touch of the pedal it would just come out burning rubber.
Now last moth I did a tune up spark plug, wire, distributor cap and rotor, air filter ect O' and the wagon had no fuel fitter so I install one. A few weeks ago the wagon started shacking like crazy. I could not find why it was shacking. I was so busy at work that I had no time to work on the problem. Now yesterday I had a brake, and found that two sparkplug wires got burned with the headers. I replace the wire with new and stop shacking. Now when I was pressing the gas it started backfiring true the carb and fire popping. My brother was messing with the carb and helps some with the shacking and the backfire. But still it lock of power, I started messing with the timing, (which it was way of the mark) and the backfire was still happening plus it started to overheat. I put the timing back to the previous mark and stop the backfire some and shacking. Now the timing mark is way of the spec. But it runs better. I pulled out the #1 plug and is black, can this be the backfiring problem. I think when my brother mess with the carb it got to run too rich in gas that’s why the plugs are black. I am not shore what ells to check. I am not a mechanic but am pretty got at troubleshooting. Can some one give me some hints or what can the problem be thank
