Correct steel wheels for my '69 RR?

Looking at the 15x6's (63-5612334) w/3.75" backspacing :think:

While I applaud your efforts for looking for original parts can I ask if you have even checked to make sure your axle is correct? I only ask as many of the cars that have been heavily modified don't always have the correct axle to begin with. Ie is it a dana rear axle or an 8 3/4?

Has it been shortened? Do the springs line up perfectly or are they slightly in or out?

I still do not know why you feel that going to a local salvage yard to pick some rims off a rack is harder than searching online for a set of rims that may or may not be what you need to begin with.

You also have to decide on a tire type. Bais ply tires will work great on a 15 x 6 rim with good solid road feel. However a radial tire is not as sure on the same rim ie 225 x70 r 15 is about the limit. If you want to go bigger with radial tires you may need to go with 15 x 7 or even 15 x 8 simply because the sidewalls on a radial are softer.

Note while the tires will mount to the rims however you will notice a sway from side to side if you drive them.

Something people up here do is have two sets of tires and rims for their car. THe show set which is all correct sized rims and bias ply and the regular drivers. 15 x 8 usually have to be made but are quite popular with the more uh powerful cars.

It appears to be stock length (not narrowed) and the front wheels bolt onto the rear axle, so it's the same bolt pattern.

This was actually an issue on my coupe that had a GM bolt pattern up front and a Ford bolt pattern in the rear, so I had to use wheels drilled for both.

Bone yards around here are filled with newer cars and have slim pickings when it comes to old stuff.

I did try LKQ and the ones they had didn't match what I'm looking for (they looked like steelies from the 80s)

They wanted $55 bucks per wheel and going by the photos, they looked a bit on the rusty side.

I don't mind paying twice as much for a clean set of wheels that are period correct and ready to go.

I'll most likely go with Radials, but whatever is closest in size to the original bias ply.

The new redlines will be my daily tire, but I'll be swapping back to the Mickeys for strip use.

I believe they're on 15x8's

Don't think I'll be using the current 14's for anything but spares.

I would go with at least 15X7 front & 15X8 rear for modern radials Unless you are going very skinny tires

Ps sweet looking ride and I do believe that is not narrowed and in the factory location and living in fla I'm jealous you get to Cruz when ever not the 6 months we get up,here:)

I want it as close to stock looking as possible (within my budget).

I may swing for 15x7's, but 15x8's are out of the question (that's what I currently have out back and they look HUGE)

What about the front bolt on mounts?

Will it push the rear end back and bugger up the pinion angle when I install the stock height springs?

So I was putting some miles on her to break in the new gears and picked up a nail in the LR tire :doh:

Since I'm running tubes, it aired down in less than a minute :o

Of course I don't have a spare, so I had one of my guys drive my Cruiser over and aired it up just enough to get to a tire shop across the street and had them yank the tube, plug the hole and install a new valve stem (where all the air was actually leaking out from)

After scoping out some new rubber, I landed a deal on a set of G70-15's :cool:

Should have them by next week, but now I need a pair of 15" wheels for the front and I'm debating between 15x6 and 15x7 :think:

I'll be running the 15x8's on the back for now, but will eventually match whatever I use up front and save the 15x8's for DR's

stock was 15x7 with 4.5" back spacing
