distributor & exhaust

Has anyone used a proform 66994 with a msd blaster with their 440? Does an h pipe give a louder exhaust than without?

H pipes or X pipes the only way to tell any gain is on the dragstrip on a wide open pass.. Me,, I do not like them, they equalize the exhaust sound and take away the sound of a cam. Plus its a pain if a tranny pull is needed at sometime.

They take away the cam sound? that i did not know, i will stay away from x /h pipes i like my cam sound through the exhaust.

Well I guess you can have "cam sound" or you can be first at the end of the strip

H / X pipes are a well known way to get more power out of what amounts to limits of an exhaust system and have been used for many years. First one I saw was the factory one on my 69 RR

Complaining about an H pipe being in the way is silly. Cut it in half and put a flange in the thing.

On smaller mild engines with big exhaust, they do "soften" the sound some. I never found the change in sound to be objectionable

my exhaust is short... dumps in front of the rear wheels 2.5 with turbos, i would like side pipe's
with the short exhaust, versus to the bumper, would h/x make a difference in the shorter exhaust or with the side pipes ?

personally i feel once cruising... the carb noise under throttle is far louder and meaner sounding than the exhaust.
i think air boxes... cover the sound up where the real monster roars from.
unless your running open headers or cut outs even the straight pipe top fuel-er
the carb is by far the louder of the two.
When i'm at a full throttle run or even part... once that Air Valve opens you hear it over everything else
I believe you know what i'm typing about.

i know this is a bit off subject well not really
i'm reminded of my early days in the auto body shop i drove a Ferrari Daytona we modified it to match the one in the show "Miami Vice" back in the mid 80's...also from the movie "Gum Ball rally"
That car is a V-12 with two distributors one for each bank and twelve 1bbl carbs...to this day that is the coolest toughest sounding automobile i have ever drove 7k rpm red line firing two cylinders at a time the sound is un-matched for me, and if in the future if cash wills i will own one and drive it lot's!
listen to this
this is cool also

years ago i had a 1963 300 J with a 500 in max engine two AFBs stall converter. the pipes were loud. my muffler guy he made each pipe reduced by 20-30% at the last 2-3 inches. it was much quieter with out losing power. i was amazeed.

Like I said wide open pass down the track, is the only way to tell any gain. And that's after looking at your time slip.. Theirs no H or X connected to open headers.. LMAO If I was that worried about a .00000000000009 of a second I would just unbolt the exhaust.

I had some pipes exit just in front of the rear tires on my 77 RR I used a pair of TA style mufflers. Sounded good !! NEVER EVER drive along side of a highway retaining wall for any length of time with the window open !!!! It's hard on the ear drums
