heater core
 

I have to replace the heater core on the GTX.

Just looking for any tips or tricks that anyone might have.

Not sure on a B-body, but on an A-body non AC, you don't have to pull the box all the way out.

Just seperate it enough to where you can pull the heater core out. That way you don't have to mess with the heater controls... would suck to break those..

a few days ago, there was coolant on my mat under where the heater box is

but, after that leak, nothing has come out
but, it has been very hot here the past week (100's)
is it possible that the heat is masking the problem by allowing the metal to expand to temporarily seal the leak?

You dont want to be breathing coolant mist/fumes, dont waste any time swap it out Matt or there might be puddles on two mats...lmao:D

Have you ever ran stop leak through the system?

if yes, the heater core may be plugged and thats possible as to what caused it to blow, and another reason as to why its not leaking now.

A good way to test: start your car, get it to 180, and tach it up. See if it blows out. The pressure SHOULD cause it to open up.

But, replace it anyways...

well, the car was driven 120 miles after that leak, and nothing came out
the car hit near 200 in stop and go

does this work on car air conditioning too?
