Help with origional motor and trans.
I bought a 68 Charger R/T about 3 years ago. When I bought it the owner said it was the origional. Now I am trying to verify that. I've read some books to try to figure out what I need to look for and can't seem to figure it out. How do I tell if the motor and trans are the origonal?

I can't answer directly, as I'm not a collector. I owned these "when they were." Back then, we weren't worried about numbers.
Google this string:
Mopar, "numbers matching"

http://www.yearone.com/updatedsingle...gineinfo1.html
I don't remember, anymore, where the VIN is on original engines, but my recollection is on the pan rail. I do NOT remember if you can see it without removing the pan
If this was a replacement block, it won't match, and may not even have one

On the 68 model cars... you will need to look on the back side of the engine, near where the transmission bolts up to. Behind the intake, on the passenger side... there is a square indention that will have the last sequence of the serial number stamped there. In late 68 and early 69.... mopar began stamping this number on the side of the block near where the oil pan mounts.
Hope that helps... if you need... email me and I will shot you a picture of where to locate this number.
