Horsepower estimates
Anyone out htere want to critique a couple of 440's? I'm curious of what horsepower these motors are probably worth given obvious variables.
1- 78 block w/trw .150 in the hole, 516 heads ,1 7/8 headers, 3" exh, 6bbl, stamped steel rockers. compression ~8.75 to 1? comp hyd flat cam: rpm 2300-6500 valve timing .006 cntr angl 110 intake ctr line 106 duration 284/296 @.50" 240/246 valve lift .507/.510 lobe lift 338/340 timing @ .015 lift intake-36 btdc 68 abdc exh 82 bbdc 34 atdc 2- 69 block w/ J&E pistons, edelbrock rpm perf heads, 1 7/8 headers, 3" exh, 6bbl, comp steel roller rockers. comp 10.25 to 1 comp solid flat cam: rpm 3200-7000 valve timing .015 lobe ctr angle 110 intake cntr line 106 duration 290/298 @ .50" 252/260 valve lift .540/.558 lobe lift 361/373 timing @ .015 lift intake-39 btdc 71 abdc exh 83 bbdc 35 atdc If anyone out there would like to take an educated guess of how different these 2 motors will perform, I'd love to here it. |
COMPCAM has a free program you can download. It will figure out the HP when you fill in the variables. Try it. ..http://compcams.com/camquest/default.asp

Thanks for the idea. I downloaded it and plugged in the info (no 6 pack option, but it's close enough) Seems to be low 500's acording to that program.

sweet! I used many 440 source parts (stroked to 496) and a dual carb in a engine I just had built. It came out with 625 as the estimated hp. We will see when I dyno it :)
