Interlock rod?

Hi all,
I have a 68 satellite w/ 440 A833 manual trans. This is my first manual trans and I'm trying to finish the install and my book shows a interlock rod coming off the z bar but doesn't show or say where the other end goes. I'm not even sure I have one, so what is the function of this thing. . . I can't seem to find any info on this. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't think the 68 had one. My guess it would hook up to the shift linkage? or to a switch on the clutch peddle
You don't need it !!!!

The only thing I can think of that might be called that is for an Automatic console shifter that attaches to the column for the gear indicator. It has a "z bar" arrangement like the clutch linkage.

You got me confused with that one.

It was an anti theft item. I thought it was phased in later, but if your manual shows it...either way it wouldn't allow the trans out of reverse without the key in the on position, also doesn't allow the key to be shut all the way off without being put in reverse. You don't need it for the car to be driven.

Thanks,

My book covers 68-70 I believe, but I did get the feeling it was not necessary to drive. Should be good to go soon.

Besides the motor likes it better to be started in neutral At least until the center thrust main gets some oil
