Leaky Voltage Regulator

69 Charger 440 with the Mopar electronic ignition conversion. This setup came with the 4 prong ballast resistor. I recently noticed that the VR is dripping down the firewall. Still runs fine, but what gives with that?

Might be some of the backing melting. Those things are pretty cheap, just replace it.

Yea, I'm aware of that, but why is it melting?

No idea, but the quality control of some parts these days can be ... questionable.
I'd just make sure it wasn't mounted near any heat source, on either side of the firewall.

It's a silicone used to keep the solidstate electronics from getting too hot. Their is also sand behind it. When you start losing stand, get a new one. What I do, which seems to solve the problem, is I put a few washes behind the unit, so air will flow behind it for cooling.

yeah, the washer method works well!
