Manual Brakes

Has anybody here upgraded their 68 B-body from manual front drum brakes to power front disc brakes? Not sure what kit to use that includes the power booster and master cylinder. Thanks

I did my 69 with a Stainless Steel Brake System kit. It came with everything needed rotors, calipers, lines, hardware, master cyl and booster. It will require you to use 15 inch wheels. Not sure if they still carry them but It was purchased at Eastwood Company. When they first offered them the price was good and it had free shipping. I have since added rear wheel disc that I put together myself with older GM rear calipers.

Did the kit bolt right up? Manual brake cars and power brake cars had different backing plates bolted to the firewall behind the booster, just wondering if this was an issue

The main difference was the reinforcement plate was used with out the power. I did the upgrade with factory parts on a 67 B body. I kept mine manual because of the performance cam & the lack of vacuum I actually liked it better that way

Master Power Brakes is another very good source for MOPAR vehicles. ALSO, you could just use a collection of salvage yard parts and local auto parts suppliers to put something together and it would not cost that much. Other MOPAR vehicle's used similar or the same booster/master cylinders as the B bodies. One example; use some spindles from a Diplomat or a volare. The A body disc brakes from 1973 thru 1976 will also bolt right up to the B body. (I had a 66 belvedere with 74 Duster brakes on it)

If you go with 4 wheel disc, make sure you have a dual disc master cyl.

Use disk spindles from an A or B body that has disks. DO NOT use the Volare spindle it is taller.. The Volare rotor & brakes will fit fine Or the larger rotors from the dippy can be used... YOU DO NOT need rear disks
