for a while i was on BITOG for a long time. i saw tons of fram filters cut open. the biggest trouble was that a lot of the guys didnt like the cardboard plate on the end of the element. fram DOES know how to build a good filter, they just dont do that on the bottom end units. a high quality fram might be ok. after reading way more filter reports than i care to remember, i came to the idea that the number of truly bad filters can be held in one hand. but puralator , wix, hastings, mann and so on, are the best. and the name on the outside may not be who makes it. have seen lots of info about that but cant remember much. but NOT a bottom of the line fram.

Here is some good reading.....
Affinia Filters http://www.affiniagroup.com/products/filtration Champion Filters http://www.champlabs.com/ Baldwin Filters http://www.baldwinfilter.com/aboutba...orcompany.html |
yea when i started reading the very tech info the SAE puts out it got way more info than my brain could handle. many years ago i found a very tech paper from Oklahoma U, about getting 400,000 to 500,000 miles out of a automotive engine, tha short story was you had to keep the dirt size at 1-2 microns. the avg filters we use do good to hold 15-20 microns absolute.

For what it's worth to the subject.... I'm a Fleet Guy... I run all Wix on all of my Fleet Now.... And Yes I'm in the Racing world....
I think we have tried every filter on the planet. And with the oil & Filter analysis process We have come to the conclusion that wix has been rite for US. Do your Home work.... There is Cheep and there are higher priced filters... Yes there is a reason, but it's not always what you think it is.... And it always changes.... Go figure... Just my 2 cents |
getting info form some one like racer that has lots of time running cretin filters is worth a lot. like i said i think truly bad filters are few and far between. just my idea.

Moe you are rite to say that there is some Junk out there.... There is !!
Champ, Partsmaster, Delta... Are just to cheep for me.... Someone is always throwing at me ( it's tested and approved) for auto use... I tell them. Do you Pay labor and for all the parts.... Answer... Nope.... And i say see, Your filter cant even filter whats coming out of your mouth!!!! Have a nice day sales guy.... Bottom Line... Use a good filter.... Dont risk all your hard work and money... Like I said Dont take all my word for it... Check it out yourself's Happy hunting Bob |
Wix or K&N are my choice.

I lost an engine to a Fram filter so for me I will never use fram again unless it is for target practice. Seriously. I use NAPA gold on everything I own now Which is made by Wix. Baldwin is a real good filter too. Or just use the Mopar filters also wix...Bill NAPA # are 1060, 1068, 1015, check the numbers for your application.
