Stock fan shroud for '69 RR w/aftermarket radiator?
My '69 has a Northern aluminum radiator and I'm not sure if a stock shroud will fit
I measured ~23" between tanks (weld to weld) and ~19.5" from top to bottom (lip to lip). http://www.fuelslut.net/ihost/files/...surementz1.jpg http://www.fuelslut.net/ihost/files/...surementz2.jpg http://www.fuelslut.net/ihost/files/...surementz3.jpg Any idea if the stock shroud will fit? |
in a word no there is nothing to bolt it to. The stock rad the tanks are top and bottom so the stock shroud would not fit. You would have to go with a chevy fan shroud to get one to fit. From the pictures your fan is close enough to the radiator that a shroud is not necessary.
The radiator support should be painted black behind the grill, it was stock on all cars. It looks like someone repainted the car from the pictures. I was wondering if someone also painted the black. It shows through the grill. I would suggest changing the fan though. You can go with a flex blade 7 fan without changing the water pump spacers and bolts. A clutch fan, while better in some respects, may not fit with clearance because of the radiator. The fan you have looks to be a solid 5 blade fan that may not keep up with cooling at idle. |
Well, so far she has yet to go above 185*, so it's definitely working fine, but I don't really like the look of an open fan :puke:
If I can't find a clean shroud, I'll most likely go electric, but first I gotta ditch the under drive alternator pulley cause it doesn't charge at idle :o |
A shroud would have to be custom.. OR contact the mfg of the radiator to see what they offer if anything. A fan shroud WILL help cooling... esp at low speed..
