Wanted to share a few shots of my 45 year old time machine.
Purchased this automobile from "a little old lady", I'm the second owner!
Car has 97,000 miles, very straight, all original with NO rust.
"Spinnaker White" 4-door sedan with blue interior.
Reliable 383 2-barrel, automatic, pwr steering, pwr brakes, air.
Bought this car for $2500.00.

I've been reading some previous threads on the forums regarding some issues I have with my car. Thought it better to read what's already been discussed before I ask the same questions. Everyone here has been so helpful- don't want to wear-out my welcome.

Can't wait for warmer weather. I want to do a deep tune-up, get "Casper' running tip-top, then start doing smokey burnouts!

Greetings crew members. Here's a good question.

"Casper" has a little cough when I mash it.
I think it may be the 45 year-old accelerator pump.
The carb looks a little 'damp' and sometimes I can smell gas.
I've located rebuild kits online, anywhere from $26 to $32.95.

Here's my question: How hard is it to rebuild my Carter BBD4422S 2-barrel myself?
Nice to know how it all works and keep the money in my pocket.

I've never rebuilt a carb before. The take-apart and reassemble portion I think I can handle.
It's the dailing-in part that has me worried.
I know this 4000lb. 'boat' will never launch like a 440 Road Runner, but I think my 383 could do better with a fresh clean carb.

Why don't you replace that intake manifold with a 4bbl one, and go to an AVS 630 cfm? The 383 should have very good revving potential, but with the 2bbl the potential is buried in the penny saving carburetor. Your fuel economy may also improve some with the 4 bbl. Well, it will improve eventually, because when you switch to the 4bbl, you will be on it all the time!:)

There not hard to do... Watch a few u-tube vids,, and see if your up to the task.... Mike the carb guy has some great vids on carbs....

I could build a fire breather, but can't afford to operate it.
Trying to keep my foot out-of-it. :naughty:

DO it it is not hard. TAKE pictures of the dis assembly to help in the rebuild.. Get a gallon of Berrymen's carb cleaner ? let it soak over night... Rinse with water, then spray good with brake clean
