413 help info needed

Hi,
My name is Nathan Lovern. I gave my brother my 62 Chrysler 20 years ago and he passed away a few weeks ago and im getting the chrysler back and was gonna try to get it back on the road but my brother has messed with the motor alot.
For some reason he has put 383 heads on the 413 and it doesnt run right now and he said it blows water out of the radiator.( The rad is half covered in bondo now cause of holes).
Could the 383 heads cause the problem? I thought 383 and 413 heads were the same but some friends have said there not the same. Looking for more info and help.
Thanks
Nathan Lovern,Va

heads will fit, the intake don't interchange but heads do. probably a bad head gasket. or warped head.

My brother put the original intake back on. I heard there was spacers that can be used to make up the difference between the heads and intake.
If the 383 has a lower deck higth wouldnt the pushrods be to long?

push rods no. you are not changing the block just the heads. all b and rb heads are the same, the 440 head will go on a 383b or 383rb 413 head will fit a 350,361,.

if he used the 413 intake he is fine, just cant put a 383,400 intake on a 413 or a 413 intake on a 383,400, i would replace the radiator if its coverd in bondo. its not a great sealer. thats probly the problem.

water or coolant out of the radiator means the pump is working and the rad, is shot.

You seem to have misunderstood. You should be able to put "383" heads on a RB (raised block) with no other changes, except that very early engines (don't remember the years) used somewhat different rocker gear.

The reason for the difference in height (361-383/// 413/426/440) is entirely in the two blocks.

As I recall the differences are, the intake, the distributor, pushrods, and of course, the valley cover gasket.

What are you needing? I completely tore my '65 300 down and restored it. Let me know if you need any help.

As mentioned before 383 heads are not really any different than 413 heads. The only way the 383 heads would be different is if you have an original Max Wedge. I doubt that. Get the radiator either repaired or replaced. You may have a blown head gasket or something but I doubt it is because they were at one time on a 383..

Sorry about your brother..Good luck on the car.

Hi,
Do I need different pushrods?

Your push rods only change if you are changing between a low deck block and a raised deck block such as changing 361 383 400 b block to a 413 426 440 block..Swapping heads from block to block does not change the push rods.
