76 New Yorker possible purchase advice
 

Hello,

I'm new to this forum, therefore hello to everyone. I want to ask for some advice. I have the possibility to purchase a 76 New Yorker under the link: http://usclassic24.pl/product/chrysler-new-yorker-1976-coupe-cruiser-440-big-block/. So far I tried to decode the vin and it says it should have engine 400 instead of 440? Other than that, are there any things I should examine while checking this vehicle? It's 3,5 hrs away from my place, therefore I wanted to do some research if it is worth going at all.
Is there any web that could help me checking the car history? Unfortunately, I live in Europe and this would be my first old car purchase any help would be appreciated!

I'd hold off for something pre-lean burn. Trust me, you don't want that

I wouldn’t be scared of the lean burn, just change the distributor and tweak the carb when you rebuild it and your good to go….

It's not just lean burn, late 70's is the worst period of the "Malaise" era. It's smog cams, smog heads, low compression, multiple vacuum hoses everywhere. A late 70's 440 has basically half the horsepower of a 69 or 70. I'd be looking for a "Fuselage Era" Plymouth/Chrysler/Dodge coupe with the 440 Magnum and factory front disk brakes. That's the sweet spot..

sure, but engines can always be modified. i'd worry less about what's in it now and more about what you want out of it. :)
