Any other '70 Newport "Cordoba Specials" here?
Just curious if any body here has even heard of this one before, let alone own one of these?
I picked mine up at a public auction about 15 years ago, and have never seen another. I didn't even realize what it was at first (it had been mildly modified), until I got it home and was looking it over...and then vaguely recalled reading about it in one of my Chryser History reference books. For those of you that have no idea what I'm talking about: The Cordoba Special was a "Spring Time" special that Chrysler offered later in the '70 model year on the Newport only line. It basically consisted of a gold colored car with gold painted rims and special hubcaps (mine were long gone when I got the car) The car also had a unique "Aztec" print vinyl top in gold only, matching "Aztec" print vinyl seat inserts in both front and back. And a small "Aztec" print hood badge. The special was intended for 2-door hard-tops, but I understand that some 4-door units also recieved the package. Unfortunately, the California sun had ruined both the top and the inserts before I got the car. I haven't messed with either because I know that there is no way in Hades that I will ever find that original material anywhere. But it's still kind of neat to have this vehicle, IIRC there were just over a total of 1000 produced and sold. Anyone else out there?? g-man |

Do you have anything showing what the hubcaps look like? It would be something to look for.

70 Aztec Cordoba

Those 2 pics are definitely the same car (looks like at the same time too.)
My car is a 2 door hard top, so it looks very different. I have a picture around here somewhere that we took at a Sacramento Mopar show back when it was a runner (383 spun a rod bearing a few years back). I do have a 440 that will replace the original motor. The side moulding is long gone. The original wheels were replaced with Cragars (doesn't look too bad). I will give it Torque Thrust 2's when it gets back to the road. Before I got it someone painted the top white, I applied black over the top of the white (looked better). I will try to take some photos of the "Aztec" details and put them here when I can. g-man |
