Brown wire From Transmission

On my 1968 Chrysler Newport Custom I have been trying to figure out why it won't start. I replaced the starter relay, there are no fried wires, and I found a brown wire coming from the transmission that isn't connected to anything but the neutral safety switch on the transmission, it was cut and there is no other exposed wires anywhere. Please help this might be the problem does anyone know where it goes to or have a wiring diagram I can go off of.

The center pin on the safety switch grounds the start relay when in neutral or park allowing it to work when the key powers the relay coil with 12v. The wire on my "70 is Brown/Yellow, the outboard pins for reverse back-up light are Black and Black.

Depends. On my 68 it only has one threaded stud on the tranny and then it goes straight to the starter relay. No center pin or outer pins.

Yea I figured out the problem. Apparently when the person before me had the motor redone they probably ripped the wire from the stater relay so I put it back into the clip on the starter relay that has another brown wire for the ignition and bam started right up.

It's likely still wired wrong. Do you not have a diagram?

The "other brown" may be the coil bypass circuit, and belongs hooked to the coil+ side of the coil.

You can get "somewhat usable" diagrams at MyMopar

Here's a 69 service manual, not the right model but much of the wiring is same Covers Dart/ Charger/ Coronet
