Header Install Help - 1972 Monaco
Hey, All-
New to this specific forum, but need some help.
I am currently installing a set of Hedmann Headers on a 1972 Dodge Monaco. 400 big block with 727 transmission and column shift.
Question #1: Do I need to feed the drivers side header from below? We have the header actually in the car; had to raise the engine from its mounts and disconnect the steering shaft from the steering gearbox shaft. Then tried to install the starter. Can't seem to squeeze it back into its home.
I've not installed headers in a LONG time. Last time was back in 1988 on a 67 Dart GT (318) and can't remember what we did with the starter. Will I need to put the starter somewhere near its home while snaking the header from below?
Question #2 has to do with the shift linkage. It appears as if the shift linkage will go straight through the header collector. Can't see any way around that other than to somehow modify that linkage to go above the collector.
Has anyone installed headers on a similar car? She's a BIG car, but believe it or not, that drivers side header takes up the little room between the block and the various other components on the car. I think I can eventually get the header installed (though any tips would be appreciated!) but I am at a loss on what to do with that linkage.
Any help would definitely be appreciated!
