Looking to revive an old 68 Fury III.

Hello all. new here, not new to forums. I guess I'll start off with a little background. My grandfather has had a 1968 Plymouth Fury 3 since the 80's. It is a V8 which I believe is a 318 because it is no special edition with a 3 speed auto. Can't remember the mileage off the top of my head. It has been sitting in his garage since the 90's and is lucky if it gets moved or driven a dozen times a year. When we do get to take it out, if it starts, recently (once or twice) it has stalled at low speeds. Now it is not in great shape, however I am looking to just get it running consistently enough so my grandfather and grandmother can take it out on the weekends. He is getting older and it would mean a lot to him so I want to get it done. There is where I need advice. They had the distributor cap, plugs, and wires replaced. I have done some research on my mustangforum asking around but I figured more specific info from guys here would be better. Basically what I got from then was, seafoam with fresh gas (regular 87 octane is fine. I've heard use lead additives and don't), seafoam in carb, rebuild car (I am younger and have no experience with carbs but I've seen them rebuilt before), check the hoses and belts and replace them if needed, replace oil (any specific oil I should be running in a car this old? someone said something about motorcycle oil), replace other fluids as well. It has new tires and a new battery. I am just looking for some general advice on what I should do to get it up and running? Any help would be great. Thanks guys! :)

hey and welcome.
87 octane is fine. since lead was available in 68 i doubt it has hardened seats so adding lead wouldn’t hurt. wouldn’t cause it to stall. with or with out it. sea foam: i always thought it would be a pain in the ass to go out there with a jar to collect the stuff plus i don’t live near the the sea;) i never had a problem with marvel mystery oil. i use it on high mileage cars. check the timing with a timing light or do it by ear. the carb being that it don’t get drove that often im sure the accelerator pump seal is dried up and no good. it wouldn’t hurt to rebuild it.. they are not that hard. most come with basic instructions. as far as oil that’s user preference. but im a valvoline type of guy.
