Rear Window Removed to repair rust but..
 

Hi thanks for looking and your ideas/input.


I have now moved to rust repair. I have removed the vinyl top and rear window. Super easy to do.

I have a question that I can't seem to get answered by calling Safelite or any other auto glass repair shop.

The rear window was evidently replaced a while ago, I know that well because that of which I was dealing with was not factory. PLUS my dad told me he replaced it 20 years ago.

My question that he could not answer is; was/is there supposed to be some sort of gasket/weatherstrip between the glass and where it lay into the window frame? When I removed it, there was gobs of clear silicone in there where my dad clearly injected liberally copious amounts of silicone, obviously to seal any leaks.

Does anyone know if there was one or where to find one if I do need one? MOST IMPORTANTLY DID IT COME FROM THE FACTORY WITH ONE?

The weatherstrip is glued to the body DON"T use silicon use the proper adhesive. Window fits into the seal grove along with another coat of adhesive

3 M made 2 diff weather strip adhesive. one was black and one was yellow. one is fast dry and one was slow dry. cant remember which is which, one may not be a available any more. my dad liked the slow dry. we even used them on gaskets.

I found some butyl tape which is kind of made of the same substance as dynamat- that tar-ish super sticky crap, I'm going to see if this works any better.
