right thread, left thread studs..
I just had the Magnum 500 wheels and RWL tires put on the Fury (photos in album) but I found the right side had right threaded logs and the left had left threaded lugs.. Is this normal? :rolleyes:

I had a '69 Coronet that had left handed threads on just the fronts, not the backs. Never heard of them being different from side to side, but hey I got an open mind :) |

sounds right to me....i had to knock out the lefties and put in new standard right hand threaded studs to change wheels. easy to do, oreillys had them in stock..cheap.

Yeah i have to change mine out on the left side, due to this, i didn't realize and used my impact oops!! stripped two threads on front studs....

Yes this is common (right hand thread on the right side and left hand thread on the left) - just recently bought some locking wheel locks for my 1970 300- Needed to order them as all the auto parts stores kept trying to sell me a kit with 4 wheel locks (all right hand threads) :rolleyes:
The thought behind this from the car makers was to help prevent the lug nuts from loosening up as the wheel rotates while in drive. Impact guns are death to the studs and lug nuts whe the operator is not familiar with these vehicles :o |

Correct! Regardless of what you told the guy at the counter..... You have to TELL the guy that has the impact gun in his hand, and make sure that he understands what you just told him! I just replaced a few left hand studs as the guy with the impact gun didn't learn on the first two!!:( |
I had a freind years ago that junked a good 69 dart because he broke off all five studs trying to change a flat. Coulda limped it home on the flat but these cars had no real value in the 80's and he was no mopar guy. To bad about that dart tho' I would probably still have it if he called me.
By the way you can get chrome lug nuts for left hand threads. Some one has them for sale new at moparts all the time good price too. |

"Sure, what for?" "Oh, I've got a front hub off a car, can't get the lug nuts loose." "Ok, come on out" (He's about 15 miles away!!) Comes out, dumps the tire/ hub on the ground. I say, "Mopar, eh?" "Geez, how'd YOU know" "Well, I've seen a few. WHAT SIDE IS IT OFF OF?" I get the most downcrested look on this Chibbie guy's face, he knew right then what he did wrong. |
I gotta say, what was Mopar thinking! Was there a HUGE rash of left wheels falling off back then or what! It just seems like an answer, to a question that was never asked.

Had that situation on my 69 dodge charger. Broke three before realizing something was up. I must be a slow learner.

Big Q. did not the left lug nuts have a small notch to show its a lefty? many years ago i worked with an old chrysler mechanic. he had some late 40s mopars and early 50s. and all had a bolts on the wheels, and the left side was left hand thread. this mechanic had more trick than you could shack a stick at.
