Surf City has a good product for Vinyl, check them out on the net, surf city garage is the name of the company. It's a two part deal.

when i got my vinyl roof put on, i was told that unless the car was to be used everyday and left in the sun, to not put anything on the vinyl roof

I would use Mothers Convertible top cleaner, which you can find at the bottom of this page;
