Need help : value of a '74 Challenger ??
Hello guys, I'm new here, I'm Sly from France.
I bought a '72 Ford Mustang Grande a year ago and it's my first classic US car. I really like it, it drives very good and I invested a lot of money in it already. I really enjoy the 71-73 Mustangs since they are not too expensive and IMO they have that muscle car attitude.
It's an automatic with a 351 ci Cleveland engine with 4 barrel carb. I think it produces around 250 hp.
But now I have the opportunity to get a 74 Dodge Challenger.
Let me explain : the old Dodge Challenger has always been my favorite classic/muscle car.
I love the body style to death and I always liked MOPARs. Agressive still beautiful bodystyles, bad *** engines and very good reputation.
A year ago someone let me drove his 73 'Cuda and I really liked it.
A month ago I came across an ad for a 74 Dodge Challenger.
When I saw the ad and the pic joinded to it I immediately remembered I already saw the car. The car is located in a garage a hundred km from me ; I've been there once with a friend that wanted to try a 68 Charger.
He tried it but finally didn't buy it.
Anyway in the back of the yard was laying a Dodge Challenger under the dust. I saw it immediately and when I asked why it was there, the guy told me it was a car belonging to a client and that he did not know anything about it. I took 2 pics of the Challenger with my phone, I didn't know it was for sale... but I remember the interior was all black and looked very good.
Those are the pics I took :
The pic in the add looks like it's the same Challenger that's for sale now :
When I contacted the garage they told me the car is still for sale. The guy gave a few details :
This Challenger has a 318 ci engine. Vynil roof is brand new. It has front disc brakes and power steering. It needs a new carb (he didn't say if it has a 2 or 4 barrel intake), bit of "motor refreshing" and a paint. That's for the most important things.
Price is 13000 euros (which I think is a quite good price for such a car here in France).
The day after tomorrow I'm going to go and see the car again, take pics and ask the good questions. I'm a very big Challenger fan and even if I know a '74 with a 318 ci isn't the best value in the muscle car market, it's still very desirable.
I use my car as a weekend car for cruising and occasionnal vintage car meetings. I'd like to have at least 250-300 HP under the hood and maybe I can upgrade the motor so it produces that power (I'm thinking about an upgraded performance camshaft etc.).
If it looks like a good deal, it may lead me to sell the Mustang and get the Chally.
What do you think ?
What are the right questions I need to ask ?
What do I need to focus on when checking the car ?
Of course I'll take some pics and post them here.
Thanks for helping me out and excuse my english.

Looks like a good solid car. Like any 30 year old car I would check for rust especially being stored with an open window ? Check the trunk, floorboards, frame rails. As a 318 IT came with a 2bbl carb. unless modified already. 300 hp is an easy build.
The price ???
