Need some help on 70 Challenger vinyl top trim

Hello to all, I'm a new member who has just purchased a 70 Challenger RT wannabe. It started it's life as a 340/275 HP and it's previous owners RT'ized it. I'm now in the process of putting some missing items back on the car. The vinyl top was gone, as was the stainless trim. I have bought the stainless, now I need some advise on the hardware needed to install it. Question: was the studs that retain the stainless welded to the car, or was there holes in the car for a threaded clip ? Someone in the past either welded or mudded the holes, or cut the studs off, then painted over. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The car is really straight with a 440 6PAK.
