Wobbly balancer pulley on slant 6
The balancer pulley on my 1962 slant 6 wobbles a lot (about 1/3 of an inch) from front to back. It has done this since I acquired the truck. Is it normal or will it hurt anything?

It shouldn't wobble. Its a sign that it should be replaced. Maybe they put a junk yard engine in it at one time ?? Could be age, Could be it was hit at one time? I would be looking for a new one. They used the slant 6 for many years so it shouldn't be too hard to find one

The pulley? Or the whole balancer?
If pulley, I agree with TVLynn.. Look for another one.
Look at the bolts that attach the pulley to the balancer and see if one is stripped, wrong size, shimmed to line up belts etc????
Pull it off too and make sure it isnt out of round, like TVLynn said, if it were hit the pulley itself could have been smacked.

Yes, the pulley itself. The engine runs smooth, doesn't shake or anything, just the pulley is wobbling.
